I just can't seem to ever get along with my dad

First of all I'm 14 years old. My name is Alyssa and it seems like my dad and I can never get along. We always have these misunderstandings and he acts like a total jerk. I was yelling at him yesterday and he got angry because I called him a moron and I said he was acting like a child. Then he said I was a "13 year old punk..." and I screamed "You idiot I'm 14! You don't even know how old I am!" these kind of things happen all the time though. I feel like he always thinks what I have to say is insignifigant and I can't really talk to him about how I feel. Now he's currently I guess ignoring me and he's acting like a baby. My mom says my older sister was just like this towards him at my age. But I don't know what to do. I like kind of resent him because when I was younger I saw him verbally abouse and sometimes physically hurt my mother or us. I'm just really upset and confused.

I was yelling at him because he was mad at me because he thought that when he came into my room to get something I was mad at him but I just got really startled and I tried to tell him that but as usual he just won't hear any of it. I admit I have gotten annoyed at him for sometimes coming into my room and it's not the first time it's happened but still. He should listen to my side of the story.

yes he should but all people get on the defensive when they are yelled at and dad's do not believe that they should get yelled at by there daughters

I know and I talked to him yesterday and I think were okay now. But in the future I think I definately shouldn't do that again. I just overreacted I guess.

yep, glad that you two talked it out, just keep on talking to him and things will get better
