Hello,
A little bit about me, I graduated Rhode Island College in May 08 and I've been struggling jobless for 6 months. I have a management degree, but no one wants to hire me because of lack of experience in the field. So i've been thinking of a couple things, and I need an outside opinion:

First off, I'm 23 and live at home with my parents...they are great to me, but I feel miserable because I feel like I'm going nowhere because I'm stuck in their routine..I shouldn't be in a routine, I haven't blasted off in my career yet. I feel like it's throwing me in a depression.

My grandmother said I can go live with her in Florida after the holidays for a couple months to see if I have better luck getting a job there. I feel like it could be a positive thing for me, allowing me to grow emotionally but I'm worried about getting homesick and adapting.

Seeing that I graduated college, I got a letter in the mail that I need to start paying my own health care starting January. So I'm torn whether or not I move to Florida in January(hopeing I get a job as soon as I get there), or stick around Rhode Island which has a horrible job market and continue searching for a job here.

Any insight would be very much appreciated, my mind is in 1,000 places.

-Matt

Well, have you tried looking for jobs in florida yet? Congrats on graduating and you are NOT alone when it comes to the job market. What do you think you would be homesick about? What kind of routine do you believe you would be stuck in if you stayed by your parents?

Thanks, it feels good to graduate. Well I have not really done a thorough searchin Florida...only on job search websites, but I have found those to not be extremely successful, I figured if I go, I could drive around and drop off resumes, I find not all companies that are hiring post jobs online..but those who do post online don't let you apply in person, only electronically...so it's aggrivating because I'm probably a lot more unqualified in my field than others searching for the same position.

I guess I would feel homesick missing my family, and just knowing the fact that they will be sad if I leave, hurts me. But being 23 years old and out of college, I feel like I need my own space you know?

I'm sort of stuck in the routine of their lives, not my own. While they are at work, I job search all day, we eat dinner, they watch tv, I go to my room and hang out. Day in and day out. If I wan't to play my guitar during that "tv" time, I should be able to without worrying about being too loud. Egh, it's frustrating feeling like I'm going no where with my life.

I love my parents, but I'm at the point where i'm so aggrivated being home, that I'm nitpicking their daily habits and getting frustrated over it, I don't think it's healthy. So do I need to move away? Try out Florida? I mean i have the opportunity to stay with my grandma there, but I'll have to conform to her ways. Or stick around and keep searching around here. Sorry for talking you're ear off, I'm just so glad to vent to someone.

no need to appologize for anything, that is what the forum is for. You are right that you would have to conform to your grandmother's ways which might be harder to do than your parents since you already know your parents ways, but if you want to get a job even if it is not in your field, i'm sure you can do that.

I always like to say "What is the worst that can happen?" In this situation, what is the worst that can happen if you move?

I guess moving there may be a positive thing. this is just a stressful time in my life, so many different things i'm thinking of. I strive to be happy. But being unemployed and my need for independence both prove to stress me out. Makes me depressed sometimes.

But you are right, what is the worst that could happen, things are not really getting better over here.

as long as you think of it as running towards something instead of running away, you can stay positive, who knows you might find a job since you made the decision to move. things work like that.
