About Us

Brad W. Levitt, PsyD

Brad W. Levitt, PsyD I am Brad W. Levitt, PsyD, and I am licensed in my current state of residence and practice as both a Psychologist and as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned a BS in Psychology from the University of North Dakota, an MS in Community Counseling from St. Cloud State University, and a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree from Forest Institute in Springfield, Missouri. During my doctoral training I also completed Post-Graduate education in Marriage and Family Therapy. The diversity and extent of my training has allowed me to be able to conceptualize client difficulties from various perspectives, which allows me to more effectively utilize the best strategy possible to help them toward greater mental health.

Since completing my master's degree in 1998, I have worked in a wide variety of settings and have served clientele with a vast array of presentations. My master's internship involved me working at an alternative school doing individual therapy with adolescents and family therapy sessions with their families. I worked as a master's level counselor doing in-home family therapy with families who had at least one child at risk of being placed outside the home. During my doctoral training I worked at the Forest Clinic, which was run by my school, where I did individual therapy with all age groups, marital therapy, and family therapy. I also did additional outreach work at an alternative high school doing individual psychotherapy sessions with the students. My doctoral level internship was primarily in the area of child psychology, as I worked largely with adolescents, some with younger children, and some with adults and marital couples. I did my postdoctoral residency in a rural location for two years, continued my own private practice in that location for two more years, and one year ago moved my practice to a neighboring community.

I have seen clients in individual, marital, family, and group therapy formats. I quite regularly treat people with ADHD, PDD, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, behavioral issues/delinquency, child custody disputes, disability issues, vocational issues. I use an eclectic therapy style, meaning I use parts from various theories as they seem appropriate for use with a particular client. Many times I utilize a Cognitive-Behavioral approach, meaning efforts are made to modify behaviors and to change irrational thought processes. Systemic theories are utilized frequently, as I realize problems are maintained within the family system and are often circular in nature, rather than linear. I like to use a Solution-Focused approach as well. While I do not ignore the past, the primary emphasis of therapy is coming up with strategies to allow the client to function better in the present and future. Each client moves at his/her own pace and the duration of therapy varies according to the presenting problem and client characteristics.
